Giovanni Morassi
Giovanni Battista Morassi was born in Udine in 1969. He began working with wood at a very young age. In 1986 he received his diploma from the Technical School of Hand-Crafts in Tarvisio (in the Udine province) and in 1988 he moved to Cremona to attend the violinmaking school where he completed his diploma in 1992. During this period he worked with his uncle, Gio Batta Morassi, in his workshop, an authentic meeting place for musicians, violinmakers and collectors; here he was able to study many instruments, and it proved to be an invaluable experience and source of inspiration. He makes violins, violas and cellos following classical Cremonese models (Amati, Guarneri and Stradivari) using well-chosen old woods. His varnish is a mellow red-brown color with golden reflections underneath. Giovanni Morassi has taken part in several competitions. Among the others are:
